Sonor Rosewood Teardrops 1972 priceing advise

Loading...

I will be listing these here and on ebay. You guys seem to be the experts... How is my ad copy and pictures Does $2500 sound realistic?

1972 Sonar “Teardrop” in factory rosewood veneer finish. These were the top model of the Sonor line, are all made in Germany and are the premium 9-ply hoopless construction. These drums were purchased new by the seller in 1972, immediately put in fiber cases and toured for two years. In 1974 the seller ended his career as a musician but stayed in the music business until present and the drums have been stored in the cases, in a climate-controlled environment since then. . The drums are in excellent condition with no scratches and near-perfect chrome. Sizes are 22” bass drums, 13” rack toms, 16” floor tom. Tom mount can be used as is with single bass drum mount or split between the bass drums. Fiber cases are included as well as hardware pictured. Buyer pays shipping from Atlanta GA

Wow, 2,500.00 is very high for the set why it's a piece together set,the set should be a 3 piece, the floor tom and the bass with that made up double tom mount, the 13" tom on the left is the set, the other bass drum and tom on right is added to the set..look at the photo of the tom -13"-one you posted it has had the wrap re-moved and stain to try to match the other 3 drums so does the other bass drum with-out the toms mounted on it....I would say you would be lucky to get 600.00 for the set ...Mikey

A Teardrop 22" BD is a hard size to find. Also, your drums are in beautiful condition. I think you could get as much as $1500 for a 22-13-16, and then sell off the other 22 and 13 and maybe get another $350 - $550 for those two drums.

This Rosewood Teardrop set recently sold for $1200, and the condition was much worse than yours appears to be: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&hash=item1e615c3806&item=130482452486&nma=true&pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&rt=nc&si=e0SqkUIi2kUv93Tc2VaV1UjzJrg%253D

Thanks,

Thanks Bill for the good feedback. I had thought the same thing about splitting it into two sets. See them FS here first, then if no sale, on Ebay. I have a 1965 ten-lug Slingerland snare, speed king petal, Premier flush base hi-hat and other stuff to sell as well.

As to the comment above that one of the toms is a re-wrap, that is not the case. All of the drums look a little bit different, since they are covered with real rosewood veneer. Since I was working at Lail's Music in Richmond VA and we were a Sonor dealer, I ordered the drums for myself and took them out of the boxes from Germany. Unless little German elves snuck into my house and rewraped a perfectly finished tom for the fun of it, that is the original finish.

Yep the ones at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...aV1UjzJrg%253D are in decent shape, but not nearly as pristine as mine. Most of the rosewood Sonors I have seen had some fading, as if they sat in a practice room for a long time and the sun bleached them. Mine almost never saw the sun except at maybe an outdoor show or two. They went from original boxes to fiber cases to a bunch of gigs for two years, back in the cases. I always kept them polished with Pledge so they still shine like new.

They will be put on the market in two weeks when I get back from a tour.

and last but not least they sound even better then they look! the tuning

range is phenomenal! my 12x8 is pitched higher then my japanese drums

and that's tuned low. and they are 8's and10's! do any of you fella's know

the official sonor reason for their demise? they are a hassle to travel with.

and mine is a bebop kit.
