24" K. intermediate stamp Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

This could likely be the rarest old K. in existence. I'm compelled to assume that if they made this one, then they probably made at least a few more, but neither I nor anybody else that I know has ever seen or even heard of another. Previous to this, all 24" K. Zildjians were seen to be from the new stamp era only. So this one may possibly be one of a kind.

That sound is pure luxury. A nice weight for a 24 too. Looks to be in perfect condition too.

Looks and sounds wonderful.

Dark as hell with lots of woody stick-definition (what stick model are you playing with, there?).

That's the 24" Intermediate that the seller (from whom you scored it, I'd guess) got for $100, or something super-silly like that, yeah?

Couple of small cracks at the bell hole?

Nice one.

Yes that's the one from D.B. Cooper. And you're right that there are 2 small hairlines around the bell hole too.

I was using Vic Firth AJ-6 sticks for that demo.

One thing that's unique about this cymbal as compared to the new stamps is the fact that the bell is just a little smaller than you'd normally see on the new stamp 24's, which is a good thing. That tends to cool off the volume a little bit (compared to the larger bell types) and makes the cymbal ride-able without overtones overpowering and taking over. And along with the intermediate style hammering, that also enhances the woody stick definition.

Thank you for the sound file- it really can describe it better than anything- but wonderful wash, integrated bell, and a silvery dragon in the crash.

Cool.

I've been meaning to try those sticks for many years.

Yeah, makes sense that the smaller bell would help keep higher tones and volume in-check.

Sometimes intermediate stamp K's have bells that aren't wide, but are taller than new stamps... Does this 24" have a lower bell?

As a side note; it's pretty interesting how both bell width and height can make such significant differences. Some of the widest bells I've seen have been on type II and type IIIa old stamp K's, but because they're (relatively) low, the higher frequencies and volumes are still kept in-check.

It seems like the best 24" K's I've heard have been the ones less than 3000 grams. I remember you had a new stamp somewhere in the 2800-2900 grams a few years back. That one sounded nice, too.

The bell may be taller by only a fraction of an inch, but the main difference is in the width as you can see here.

I no longer have that one, but I have this which is in virtually the same weight range:
