Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare Deserving of a Re-Wrap

Loading...

Looking for a JazzFest to rewrap but can't bear to skin a good one so if you've got one that is in very good condition overall EXCEPT for the wrap finish (ripped, cracked, burnt or removed) i.e. a project snare and don't need it, please let me know.

Thanks

It is easier and cheaper to find a Ludwig standard shell to use. Some of the standards were built using the very same shells as the Jazz Fest. This one had the maple interior. I used stripper to remove most of the interior paint and then sanded it before re-lacquering. All the holes are the same and will accommodate the bow-tie lugs and other hardware. You will also take less grief for re-wrapping a standard.

Good luck on your project.

Drumjinx,

Thanks for the pics of your resto. job, WELL DONE!

Where did you get that wrap by the way? It's got great color and depth. I don't recall seeing that exact wrap at Precision or Jammin' Sams...

That was NOS Delmar Blue Oyster Pearl wrap that had been in storage for over 30 years. I did this snare, a 6.5X14, and a kit in it. That was all there was.

Same stuff used on Ludwig's. You are looking at what that era wrap looked like when it was new and un-faded.
