Hi all
I'm posting this to use the Forum as a "sounding board" and a kind of theropy for what I may have to do regarding my drum down-sizing. I hope you don't mind - but it feels good to do this in preparation for when the day comes. Plus .....some of you may want to buy some of my drums and I'm giving you a "heads-up."
My wife & I will both be retired in a couple of years - me before her.....I'm in that mode already. We will most likely be downsizing and moving to another City within that time. Since 2007 - the year I decided to buy a drum kit again after being away from it for 31 years - I have amassed more drums & drum-related equipment than I ever would have imagined possible - for me at least. It's been fun & I've learnt lots but I think I should seperate myself from some of this "stuff."
I have two kits & I'll be keeping one - but it will be very difficult to make my mind up which to part with. I love the Purewoods - and they're such fun to play - but the 58 kit is something I've wanted for decades. But, in the end, it's only "stuff" and it does take up room. It would be different too if I played in a band, but I don't.
I have some nice vintage snare drums & other drum parts I will be thinking about selling.
An idea of some of the stuff I may be selling:
DW Collector's Series 5x14 snare - Black Oyster Glass Glitter
Tama StarClassic 8x14 snare with abalone inlay
Premier Signia Marquis snare - made in England (before they went offshore)
Pearl Morgan Rose Signature snare - SS Green....nice little drum
1925 Wilson Bros., a 1926 Gretsch, 1964? Gretsch Dixieland (Renown) & a Pearl Popcorn with custom paint job (I may not be able to sell that one haha).
1938 Carlton 14" tom
1947 Gretsch 8x10 tom
1953 Gretsch 16" tom
Maybe...my 1958 Gretsch kit - Gold Sparkle....20/12/14 with matching snare
this kit comes with ludwig hardware & Zildjian cymbals & Vintage Nomad hard-shell cases.
Or, my Purewood kit.........6pc shellpack with lots of extras & some nice Istanbul cymbals....I'm not selling all my cymbals but I have about 20 or so & I do not need near that many.
I do not know for sure what I want for most of these drums but - for the most part - I would just want what I've got invested in them. I'm not looking at making a profit - well - except for the cymbals because I bought them mostly at wholesale prices. I think what I'd want would end up being a win-win for buyer seller for the cymbals.
I'll figure out exactly what I'm doing in this regard over the next few weeks.
