Orange Sparkle Nikkan Snare?

Loading...

Hello-

I bought this snare and 2 others on Ebay a couple months back, and this is the only one that I have yet to identify. I've done some research, and I think it's a Nikkan, but I am really not sure. I just replaced the original heads, but I kept the original Pearl snares on the drum. It sounds awesome, very warm. I found another seller on Ebay who is selling one very similar (if not the same model) and claiming that it is a Rogers...

any info on this drum would be great. Thanks!

-i'll have some pictures up shortly.

Gkd, your snare is a Pearl made drum. The lugs, strainer, and style of the adjustment knobs tell the story. If the snare wires are original, it's very possible that it was badged as a Pearl as well. Love that orange sparkle!

The one on the ebay link, well, Nikkan, Hoshino, Pearl... will the real Slim Shady please stand up? There may be some evidence that Hoshino and Pearl are linked, even though that goes against the prevailing wisdom, so it's hard to say who the maker is. Still, a very cool drum as well. Thanks for posting!

Nikkan was an early Yamaha name. This is a pre-Yamaha snare.

Yes sir. Before Nippon Gakki, the name was Nikkan. It was the assembler they chose before they went full tilt into drum building, from what I have been able to gather. These MIJ are some funny stuff to get into.

I saw some nippon ghakki drums once. They had some gaping holes and the guy had just hosed them off with a waterhose. Water was running out oof the stand when i picked them up and I said what the hell! He said "Oh I just rinsed them off with a water hose" I left
