Are you living in the dark ages? Go to the website or go the the video section and you can see and hear them compared with two Ludwig kits.x-mas3
Dont know what's with those 73 ludwigs,
but i really love the sound of these toms,
especialy the 16".
that is a good video, must have been a lots of works
Thanks for posting it.
They look nice, bass drum being set up backwards and all !!To each his own !!........:)Kev
Hey Kev.
I reckon the bass is around the right way, looks like the bass drum mount
was set up for a super setomatic tom holder. Hence it's so close to the front of
the drum, must have had a 14" tom as well originally.
Stevo.

Whatever is more comfortable, but the mount goes toward the player and the badge toward the audience in every set I've seen.
This set looks like a Buddy Rich with the two sets of legs for the bass and wouldn't make much difference, but even in the catalog it is set up badge forward.
With single sets of legs, they are placed toward the reso/badged side of the bass drum and you have to point that side toward the audience to get the lift one needs for that side. With the double set of legs, it matters not, except aesthetically.
Whatever is comfortable for the player is good with me.... just sayin'.....

Yep you're right the badge should be toward the audience.
On closer inspection there is something odd about the hardware configuration
on the bass drum. If the badge is toward the front, then the wing nut on the
mount should be toward the player (ie in the opposite direction). Has the mount been turned around at some stage? And the spurs are angled toward the front as they should be which is the opposite direction to the badge.Strange, Oh man! now I'm confusing myself.

I had to flip everything around on a little jazzer set I picked up in Tennessee earlier this year.
He liked the mount in front so he could extend it up high, and turn it straight back to place the 12 inch tom right in the center above the bass.
It worked for him, but just felt wrong for me.
Looked weird from the audience side too........
To each his own, I guess !
Kev heres a catalog pic of a kit with the same bass drum set up as werty's.
Maybe Slingerland changed the badge position in the mid 70's for the
super setomatic set up? On my Slingy bass drum the mount is central and
the badge is to the front, but it has a single setomatic holder.http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/slingerland_drum_sets/1977-78-slingerland-drumsets2.jpg

Looks that way.
As long as the down tube would fit the Super mount on the bass, it could work.
I change parts around on my set-o-matic set ups a good bit, and they are pretty much interchangeable.
Made up a single tom holder with a Slingy cymbal stand base and a round set-o-matic down tube.... could make a double that way too.
Good eye, man !!
