Ebay Calfhide Head

I won this on eBay yesterday & I think I'll put it on my Gretsch 20" bd.

Question:I haven't tried a used calfhide head so far & I was wondering which head would be best to use this on - batter or reso??

Any experiance out there with this this? I've ordered another head for the drum. I'm thinking the new one should be on the batter side........

Ya - I outbid him the other person by a penny

The drum was a reso head - I'll keep it that way.

Can you explain how you are going to put a 22" head on a 20" drum?

Perhaps if you cut a large hole in the it. (That always does wonders)

Also squeeze, squeeze hard. Some lubricant might help too ;).

I was going to just shrink it..........I think it will fit. If I practice my doublekickman it should be no problem.

If you do trim it and put it on a smaller ring,..I would keep it on the front too. It`s age might wear down quicker than a new one !! It should be all done stretch`n so be careful !!

Yes - I was going to put it on the reso side. I'll be careful - I'd like to use it but if it doesn't work out I can put a new head on it no problem.

This hobby (Vintage-drumming etc.) is a little expensive. But I look at it this way: I don't golf, I don't fish, I don't hunt, I don't collect cars.....so comparing my hobby to some of my friend's hobbies....mentioned here....it's no where near as costly...and I think I'm having as much or more fun.
