Almost Restored Gretsch Snare

Loading...

I showed you guys this shell a long while back. Today I finally polished all the hardware. Put it together just to get some pics to show you guys. I am putting this snare together to sell more than likely. I ran into a few issues. When I was putting on my last lug it would not go into the hole. This was the last lug right before the seem. As I gave it a look the wrap was over just less than half of the hole which was just enough to stop the lug from going into it. I had no problems at all with any of the other lugs. So my first question is do I pull back the wrap and try to stretch it further so the holes line up or do I cut a little off where the hole is?

My next issue is the rims. They are bent up a bit. Looks like the bottom one is worse than the top. Should I buy new/used ones for it or can I get these fixed somehow.

Issue 3 is the throw off. You may have noticed it is not on the shell. I posted a pic to show you the problem with it. Any advice on fixing this?

Overall I am probably selling this shell. What do you guys think it is worth like this? Obviously I would make more with it all together but what is the difference in price with it fully restored compared to as is?

Thanks VDF

I hope that four-point is repairable, cause they are a pain to find, and quite expensive when you do.

Good luck

Steve at DS said it was. I hope so. The four point on the Harlequins I just got is all together but doesn't function properly for some reason. No wonder you cant find these it seems they were all junk!Lame

Well.....its healed over pretty well now....the snare is back to OEM spec and works/sounds great, so for me the expense was worth it. :D

Gretsch strainers of all types have issues.....the only reliable strainer I've ever found was a Ludwig...LOL!
