You sure about that serial number? Could there be a digit missing? Serial numbers for black & silver Niles badge with no loop at the bottom of the "S" should start around 100000. If your drum's serial number is 112XXX, that would put it around 1973-ish, which feels about right looking at the drum.

There is an oval silver and black badge that could have five digits... used from '70 to '72.

The football silver and black badge beginning in '73 to would be more likely to only have six digit serials.

The transition silver and black badge with the bottom loop was only used for part of one year ( '70).

My WMP New Rock Outfit had five digit serials with the oval badges.

This is one I really wish I had not sold......

Just curious SkyDog... what are the distinguishing characteristics that make the snare appear to be a 1973 as opposed to a 1971?

A mistake on my part! I overlooked that 1970-72 oval badge without the looped "S". (Oops.) Thanks for catching that. Totally explains the sub-100k serial number, too.

So upon further review... With the 1970-72 oval badge, I guess that makes this drum 1971-ish?

Thanks to everyone. The five digits through me off too. I'll list it as an early

70's model. eBay bound.

Footnote here..... all my info comes from the good Doctor Wenk's articles on Slingerland drums in the Drum Guide, and sometimes from Rob Cook's book on Slingerland.

I try not to comment "off the cuff", as my memory requires frequent refreshing these days......:)
