Rechroming?

Loading...

I am working on an old kit and I have most of the hardware I need. Unfortunately, it isn't in the best looking condition. It works great though. I have tried cleaning it as best I can, but there is much left to be desired.

Is re-chroming possible? If so, is it worth it?

I appreciate any advice.

Depends on the parts. Lugs are frequently pot metal which can be difficult to replate if badly pitted (it can be done). Items that have moving parts (snare throw-offs, hi hat stands, etc.) need to be disassembled before replating. If the hardware was originally nickel plated you might want to do that instead of going all the way to chrome plating. Finding the right metal plating shop to work with you and do these "little" jobs is the hard part nowadays, at least where I live. It won't be "inexpensive", but can generally be done.

Thank you for the response.

I was not so much thinking of lugs and small parts, rather (primarily) a tom holder and cymbal mount. There are a couple places in my area that will do it, I just don't want to waste my time or theirs if it's not able to be done.

Retro, I'll check on that. Not sure if our local place would want to get into having things shipped, but I'll see.

I have a neighbor that rechromed a snare for me. I can ask him about bulk items. I live in So. Calif. and from what my automobile friend says, a lot of re-chromers send there work out to Mexico.

I'll check with my neighbor about rechroming if you're interested and you can send me the parts.

Hey BBB! please keep me posted on what you hear from your friend. I got a lot of stuff to re-chrome.
