My very first kit Crown MIJ's

Loading...

Just found this photo from 1982 of my very first drum kit - a Crown MIJ. You can tell it's the 80's 'cuz my socks are pulled up to my knees!

I really wish I still had this kit. I ended up trading them in for a set of Pearl Exports a couple years later. Didn't realize what I had at the time. Then came a custom made Ayotte set - big rawk drums. Great for the grungey 90's. Well here I am 28 years later back to the vintage drums, flat based hardware etc. Ah, it's good to be back ...

Drummy:

You know what you have to do now, dont you?

You have to go find that same set and buy it, restore and play it.

I have the same story...started 37 years ago on a Blue Sparkle MIJ snare drum, played Luddy/ Slingy/ Gretsch for 32 years, now I'm restoring a beautiful set of Pearl Valencias in, you guess it...Blue Sparkle.

Love seeing an old Crown set. Here's my first kit...brand spanking new Crown in 1966. Dark blue marine pearl. They're still around in pieces and I'll probably do a resto in the near future.

Very cool! WMP, 20-12-14 with an 8 lug snare, that would be a cool kit to hunt down. Do you still live in the same area? You may find them in an attic somewhere, and get them back for a song....maybe even free!

Wow, great idea Jonni! Can you believe this has never occured to me? I do live in the same area. Wouldn't that be something if I could find this kit again? I'm ON it!

If not, I am thinking about selling my WMP, 22-13-16. It's no name, but a sweet kit. I can tune, but either I am not finding the "other" sweet spots on the toms or they are just limited to a very low rumbly-tumbly tone. The bass has plenty of range. And it is very likely I just haven't looked hard enough because I like the low, booming tone these have now. They tune to JAW and that is where I tune them.
