Old school flat sided lugs

From OddBall

Like mine, those drums are built like a Battleship !!

Yes, mine are quite large, heavy, and still sound fantastic! As to your previous posts, the tom/snare screws do have a coarse thread, but the bass drum t-rods are fine thread...and as far as the lug logos, I noticed when I started my tear down and cleaning that there are some lugs with the large symbol and some with the small symbol...wondering if this would be a mix and match kind of deal...and yes, my kit looks just like the other one, but I have 2 combo tom/cymbal stands, and the double tom mount for the bass drum, with the lever adjust clamps on them, and the color is vintage white, or "manilla", if you will...lol

Also, on the inside of every drum except the snare and the 14" tom, the gentleman I purchased them from wrote his name on the inside of the shells with a date of 5/5/89. Not sure if the date is accurate with the age of the kit or not...

And the setup I am currently using is in my signature, except for the 13" tom, which I havent figured out a good place for yet...its just in the way right now with my setup. It did originally come with the 18" floor tom, but foolishly, I got rid of it, because I had no clue what I had :-(

Plus I also have the 506 ferromaganese seamless snare, which I will keep forever, even if I get rid of the other pieces. I absolutely LOVE the sound of it.

Another strange thing is that the toms only have one bearing edge on them, not 2...the bass and snare both have 2, but the toms only have one...any suggestion on why that might be?

Thanks again for your input...hopefully the mysteries of this kit will start to unfold here soon...being young and naive always seems to catch up to you somewhere down the road!

The small logo is from the 76 to 79 era with the small black badges. SONOR changes up mid year 79 to large logo and large badge. These should have the fine threads. The flat bottoms suggest a conversiton at some time. This could explain the small logo lugs. Sonor wouldn`t put mixed lugs on different badges.

The 80`s Phonic Plus have larger toms and bass Plus the large badge. The panthers speak for themselves. All the other series have their name on their badges.

Sounds like an 80`s Phonic kit converted with earlier lugs. 80`s concert toms had the large logo but I`m not sure about the sizes. How many small logo lugs are there ?? What badge do they have ??

Pics would tell me more, Sonor would never allow a stencil brand to market. Sonor drums are best ID`d from the exterior.

I wish I could put pics up here, but theyre too big to upload. If you check out my bands site below, there are some pics of it on there...sorry for the shameless plug...lol

The badges are definetly the large silver badges, roughly 2 inches long, by inch and a half wide, with the large black logo on it. All the drums have the same badge. None of the badges have panthers on them, though, and no real identification on them.

Badge looks like this: a large logo on top, the grommet in the middle, then under the grommet, Sonor percussion, with small black logo. Under that, the serial number, and underneath the serial number, it says Made in Germany

A couple of the badge grommets are only one sided, as if they were removed once, or not pressed enough. Either that, or they just became loose with age and use.

There are roughly 5-7 lugs that are the smaller logo'd lugs, mostly on my 16" tom. Id have to take an accurate count of them, but I definetly recall seeing them when I removed the lugs to clean everything up.

Ive contacted someone on the Sonor website a couple times, sent pics, and they said they are definetly Phonics, but it just seems to me like they are mixed and matched.

Lets rule out the Phonic Plus kit cuz the sizes would be 13x13 14x14 15x15 16x16 the 24x14 is an option and the 505 snare would be possible.

Rule out the Panthers too cuz the are all black, powder coated metal, black wrap, black heads, black interiors.

You can crop the pictures to fit or change the settings on the camera to E-mail size. Your link don`t work,...something about expired or mis-spelled !!

The badge is of the 80`s....It wont say Phonics on it,...

The gromet being one sided suggests drum sander,..not factory error.

I`d really like to see them up close inside and outside. Try changeing the sizes.

The count on small logo lugs might suggest modification to match top lugs.

All of the pics I have are on my phone...I even tried to crop a few of them, and theyre still too big. Im going to be able to upload them on Sunday, Ill have the proper equipment to upload and crop. I should have them up by next Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday the latest.

If you want, go to reverbnation.com, and search Kill On Sight 518...it will bring up our artist page, and theres a couple decent pics on there...just of the outside shells, though. That link does work...I can attest...I was just on there...

When I dismantled my bass, I took some good upclose pics of inside the shell...all of the insides of the drums are in really good shape. No paint, no dings or dents...just the sharpie where the previous owner wrote his name on them.

Like I said, ill upload these pics and have them up sometime early/middle of next week.
