18x10 Ludwig Bass Drum.. what do you make of this??

Its a converted marching tom.
I just went through some old Ludwig catalogs on cd... they list what they can "tenor drums" that are basically tiny bass drums.
There's none that exact size in the 3 catalogs I went through, but the 10" depth is a common depth for a thin marching bass drum.
Of course it could be any brand of shell, but that does appear to be what it most likely is. It does look like an especially nice conversion - that's a cool find.
That's a really cool conversion! How does it play? I'll bet the response is REALLY quick!

Absolutely...it was one of a set of three Tri-Toms (tri...three.....I get it !).
Usually 14/16/18. I have bought plenty of Tri-Tom sets off of eFlay and turned them into mini-kits. You can usually peg a whole set for around $100 or so.
They are (were) concert toms, open bottoms. Someone added another set of lugs and closed the drum. Luddy and Slingy made a lotta these...and they both would use shells with bearing edges finished on both sides. Slingy would cover the bottom edge with a metal L. Matter of fact, I have so many of the original cumbersome harnesses/body braces which went on those, I dunno what to do with 'em (was thinkin' of selling 'em to kink.com....just down the street from me). Can you imagine marching around with a 14/16/18 hanging from the front of you ?????
I usually convert the 16 and the 18 into bass drums, make the 14 a floor tom, and add an orphan 12" for a rack. Makes a nice, nice, little bop/cocktail/jungle kit. Attached is a pic of a converted set of WMP Slingys...."afters" and "befores" ~ the 16 is in the foreground, the 14 has legs added, the 18 has the 12" orphan tom added with an antique WMP rewrap which came out pretty darn close to the yellowed original.
If it had originally been a marching bass drum, it would have been 12x18 (called a 'Scotch Bass Drum' (no, I dunno why)). I have found those on eFlay too...just small marching basses...but they are always 12" deep if they are 18" diameter. They don't drop to 10" deep for a marching bass until they get over 22" diameter.

Wow Jaye, that is an excellent way to breath life into those old parade drums. You selling them to the locals for the kiddies? Or do you have a good solid following of drummers that always want a funky set up that you create for them?

There are so many Jazz players and folks who do small cafe-type venues here in SF, that it seems like someone always wants to buy a scaled-down kit.
So, yeah, I sell 'em to locals, mostly. There was a point, I think last Summer, where I swear I built up 5 or 6 of these small kits in a row...16" and 18" bass drums.....I even did one kit with a 12x15 bass drum !
