Wow ! A black/white onyx Sonor ! Amazing !

I have never seen that wrap on a Sonor. Didn't know they offered that...i though only Slingy, Rogers, and Japanese kits used that...

I am not real familiar w/ Sonors or their history...but there are certainly folks here who are...so I am sure they will be chiming in.

But...I can tell you...you stumbled upon a great find, for sure !!!!!

Called White Tiger Pearl I believe. Had a set for years before I got back into Rogers and sold the kit. Blazing deal there, mate!

(corrected from Yellow to White - same as Slingerland)

Slingerland called it yellow or white tiger pearl...not sure what sonor called it, but here it is in a 1965 UK sonor catalog...

Mmmm....yes. Slingerland had both "Agate" and "Tiger" Pearls.

Rogers called the Slingy 'Agate' ... Onyx. Rogers actually invented that pattern; although since Slingy produced more drums, it became associated w/ Slingy.

Rogers never produced a Tiger pattern.

Pearls and Pearl stencil brands out of Japan in the '60's also had both Onyxes and Tigers....

Tiger Pearl....is subtly different than the Agate, see swatch attached.

I never realized Sonor used that wrap, too...dang.

Nice find on that old Sonor catalog, also, Rich...I love those old catalogues.

"Restored" is a slippery word. I mean...you can clean 'er up if you wanna. Shine the chrome....clean off any felt , tape, gue residue from the previous wrap and make the original sheen to the existing wrap shine and reflect better. In the pic the wrap finish looks kinda dulled....but my guess is the original outer surface is still in good shape.

That would not devalue the kit in any way. If you wanna just spiff it up, that sorta work is completely innocuous.

Devaluation occurs when you start drilling holes, adding mounts, altering edges, replacing original hoops and rods and claws, etc....

Damn...that is a GREAT old kit !!!!!

Wow! Wonderful kit. I agree with Jaye....clean her and play her....and be good to her.

Absolutely, clean it, protect it, and PLAY it, but don't change a THING of how it's put together, that's so sweet a kit I doubt you'd ever find another to replace it.

Awesome and rare color, especially for a Sonor!!

Gorgeous Sonor kit! The teardrop kits are really undervalued from a vintage point of view except for the Jazz sizes in Rosewood. Wondering if you like the sound of the snare?

I have the Harlem Star Kit in the rare gold sparkle pin stripe wrap. A weirder wrap I have never seen. Like you, I considered a re-wrap then thought better of it because of the reasons posted in this thread. Here's a pice of the snare and tom. Truly drums made for jazz with the beechwood 9-ply 13X8 tom and the 4X14 snare.

Enjoy!

BTW does anyone know the name of this gold sparkle & black pin-stripe wrap or see it in a catalogue anywhere?
