Hello,
Great site here. Through this site I've been able to identify a drum set I've been storing at my parents house for over 20 years (I'm getting old!). Before that, it was being stored at a friends house through my high school years where I started showing some interest and took them on thinking I might start playing them. Well, I started playing guitar primarily and never got to doing anything with this set but storing it.
Apparantly I've got a 1966 Slingerland Gold Sparkle 3 piece set including a 20" bass / pedal, bass mounted 12" tom, 14" snare, high hat stand and misc. "parts" (?). I'm assuming I'm measuring accross the correct place (?). All have the Slingerland "Niles Badges". It's not mint, but it's not trashed either.
As mentioned, I'm a guitar player, and looking to get my hands on a Gibson Les Paul. While it would go real nice with this set, I can't get the guitar without finding some cash. Looks like the drums have to go!
So many questions... what's the best way to proceed with selling a drum set like this to get the most bang for my buck? Should I work on completely cleaning it up myself or sell it as-is because the next guy would want to go over it? It's not a rusty wreck by any means but is it worth getting out the polish and q-tips to increase the value? Would buying new heads pull in more dollars for it, or is this best left to the buyer again? How do I best determine the worth of the set as it stands? Should I sell them individually or as a complete set?
Where is the best place to sell a vintage set? E-Bay? Craigslist? Local shops? Here? How do you ship drums (I'd rather not)? I'm not being naive and I do realize that someone here may be interested in them so feel free to contact me also, but my main purpose here is to find out what to do next to prepare to sell them.
Thanks in advance for any information.
