Hey VDF enthusiasts
I picked up a nice 3 piece Rogers R-360 kit (12, 16, 20) in what appears to be the Blue Strata Pearl wrap (based on the posted Rogers finish catalog from 1965 on our forum). It also came with a R-380 snare.
I know they are not considered the "best drums", but I couldn't resist the wrap and for the price I couldn't say no.
I remember reading they were "entry level" when Rogers was MIJ by Yamaha? Any history to help me better understand the drums and their history?
So, how do I get more of an accurate date on these as well as gain some info on the composition of the shells ? I will have them in my grubby little hands in about 2-weeks so I can see the serial numbers on the insides (if there are any that is). It has a consolette tom mount which may help on the dating.
The BD is missing a hoop, but I believe I can pick up one through the bay but it will be tough to source the inlay that matches.
The snare is has a fair amount of pitting but I don't think it will be too tough to get it to shine again after a few rounds on the buffing wheel with a variety of rouges.
Any thoughts, info, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
A few pictures to help . . .
Michael
I ended up not getting the kit. When the store shipped it they did a really crappy job packing it and the inside of the BD got 3 dents and wood chipped out of it.
