Roundbadge conundrum...

Loading...

I've never played a Gretsch round badge kit. Now there is one for sale here in Sweden at a more than fair price, but it is in quite strange shape: it has been painted (WMP), the bass drum mount has been replaced with a Catalina mount, the mount on the tom tom has also been changed.

It is 12 tt, 14 ft and 20 bd. The seller is asking 11000 SEK, ca. 1250 USD.

Is this worth doing?

Magnus how are you btw?

Tricky but $1250 is what £800 in GBP? That's a reasonable price for these shells. For a player you aint gonna get a better Jazz kit for 800 notes. And you have a nice 14" Tom in there. Considering in top condition your looking way over double.......no....TRIPLE! If you got the time and extra cash you could totally fit this kit out to your exact needs for way less and still have some buzzing vintage RB shells to bang on.

Magnus - That 14" floor tom is worth the price of the entire kit all by itself. It would be like buying the floor tom at full retail price and getting the other drums for free.

Buy it before somebody else does.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Magnus, more than likely you can remove the paint without damaging the WMP wrap if you want to.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Hey guys,

And thanks for great input. If I jump on this, I will certainly - in the longer term - try to remove the paint, or do a re-wrap, and restore the kit to a more original condition hardware-wise. I've been thinking for years that it would be kind of a natural thing as a jazz drummer to at least once have a go at a Gretsch kit.

On the other hand, I don't really need another kit (understatement of the year!)...

I will have to think some more on this, and if someone buys it before I can make my mind up, then so be it. I am well tempted though, considering the price...

According to the seller, all drums have paper tags inside, they are 6 ply Jaspers, they have the following serial/model nos:

12 model 4415 serial 14218

14 model 4417 serial 14276

20 model 4249 serial and only three final digits legible

The bass drum is missing the badge, too.

geckobeats: I'm fine, thanks for asking. I hope you are well, too.

Best,

Magnus

I've asked the seller (a vintage drum shop in the south of Sweden, some 300 miles/500 kilometers from Stockholm, where I live) for shipping costs now. If they are reasonable, I think I will pull the trigger...

Thanks airborneSFC, I have written the seller and told him that I will take the kit if p&p is not prohibitive.

Continuous updates, eh? Anyway, p&p is reasonable, so I've told the seller I will buy the kit. I am kind of excited about this...
