Rogers Tower kit

This is my Billy Martin setup I thought I'd share lol. I love the way these things sound! '67 Rogers Tower in red onyx 12, 14, 20, with matching Luxor snare and a 10x7 Brady snare on the side. Extra Luxor pictured in black onyx I picked up for another kit project.

I love everything about this kit - DE center mounted lugs, red onyx, sizes. Outstanding.

So nice. Gotta get rid of those bottom heads to make it officially a Billy Martin setup though.

That's a beautiful drum set. I am not aware of any celebrity named Billy Martin other than the late great Yankees player and manager (remember...I'm old). That bass drum cries out for a Swivomatic tom mount receiver to connect with the Swivo receiver on the 12" tom.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I never heard of Billy Martin until I read this thread. I went out to You Tube to check him out. The second he started playing, I knew -instantly- who his drum-hero/mentor was!

Max Roach!

Billy sounds just like Max and he even has the same sensibilities in his approach to the drums and to soloing. Listen to the following examples and you tell me if you don't hear it too.

First, Billy, then the Master himself, Max Roach. Uncanny style similarities. My money says that Billy listened to a lot of Roach on the way up.

Billy:

And now, the Great Max Roach:

Do you hear it too? Master and disciple, Obe Won and Luke Skywalker.. same dealy-o.

Two cool drummers.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Both great drummers no doubt, but the MR piece is much more focused and musical. Just an opinion. Nice Craviotto kit BM is playing though.

Thanks! The kit did come with both the tom arm and the cymbal arm, I just like my tom a little lower and closer in than I could get with the arm. Really looks killer set up with both of them though!

Just watched "my life on drums" by BM. Interesting video. I like his rhythm over chops approach. Check out some of the stuff w/ John Scofield & MMW.
