Rogers swivo tom mount/stand question

Loading...

Howdy all,

I've got a rogers swivo double tom mount for my bass drum, but don't use it because I use a cradle stand (which I prefer).

Ideally, I'd like to get a swivo double tom stand (I've seen people use these to mount a tom on one side and a hex cymbal arm on the other which I think is cool).

So my question is: are the double tom mounts used for bass drums the same as those used for the stands? In other words, could I just look for a stand base to use it with?

If so, what exactly should I be looking for? Are the bases for cymbal stands the same as dual tom stands?

Thanks in advance!

Top piece of double tom holder is the same. It has a flat side to prevent rotation in the mount, similar to a clamp style memriloc (not to be confused with Rogers Memriloc hardware). A cymbal stand may fit the tube, but will not have the flat side as the bass mount has on it. Take a look at the bass mount, and this is the style of base you will need for the top half to work correctly.

I have a Rogers tom stand and the base does not have the flat side on the collar like the BD mount does. You just align the bolt with the flat part of the upper tube and because of the way the collar grabs, it works fine.

You can use any cymbal stand base that accepts a 5/8" tube. Just make sure it clamps well enough to support the weight.

I used a strip of electrical tape around the stand with an auto hose clamp (the kind you tighten with a screwdriver) as a low-budget safety net/ memory lock arrangement. Since it sits down against the base, it's not very noticeable. I use one when I have it mounted in the BD as well.

If you want it to look really nice, you can buy a shaft collar at the hardware store but they are a couple dollars vs a couple cents for the hose clamp.

Using a memory lock would stop the shaft from sliding down, and allow you to use the stand screw to keep it from moving without too much pressure. That sounds like it would work well. I have done similar with other stands. Should have remembered it myself. Getting old I guess.

A Swivo era front tom in a snare stand basket is sacrilege. Although, it's not quite a horrendous as drilling the bass drum and tom for Pearl plumbing pipes.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I might have the appropriate flat round u clamp with the flat sided colar. I will check for it this afternoon, shoot a pic, and try it out on a Swivomatic Samson stand to see if it fits.

I was wrong, this isnt the parts for a stand, they are from a BD mount.

So, is this what you need?

They have been banging around in the parts drawer for years. I have no idea how I came by them.

I'm honestly not sure! The stand I'm using for my rack tom looks like this.

I'm assuming I need a different type of stand/base to make what I have work.
