Slingerland With Serial Numbers

Loading...

As you guys may already know by now, I am always trying to find some more information out on my drums. I purchased a ton of these after I got serious with drumming and now I'm moving to an apartment where I can't keep all of them. Some information on these drums would be awesome, as I'm looking to probably sell them and was just wondering the worth and what I've got. It's always cool to find out some information on these drums that I've gotten.

Serial numbers are 148364 for a 24x14 bass drum and a 14x10 drum has the serial number 144976. Here's a picture of one of the badges: http://i.imgur.com/i62Hrl.jpg

The drums say they were made in Niles, Illinois and they're a flat red color.

As you can see the tom has a couple of areas on the rim parts that have been nicked off. The bearing ring on the same side as those two nicks is also cracked, which leads me to believe the tom was dropped on that end. Other than that pictured, it's in really good condition and would clean up nicely(though the wrap already looks fantastic on both and there's 100% no warping that I can see).

Check on the vintage drum guide web site. Here's the link to specifically the Slingerland section. I've been able to get a lot of information from both the information here and with the catalog scans.

Thanks for the link, I've looked at some of that before but not recently. It looks like 1963-1969 would be what I'm looking for, but I could be wrong. My one confusion comes in that I can't find anything that says they made a flat red finish during that time. But that doesn't mean it's not from that time, but how would I find the color?

Your drums are from the early to mid 70s. Black/silver badges, setomatic hardware...

Red Gloss Pearl wrap was available in the mid 70s, sometime around 76-77ish Slingerland switched to 5ply shells without re-rings. Your shells are 3ply and came before the switch.

I'd agree with the mid 70's just based on the badges. Try finding some catalogs with the colors in it.

Yeah realized the badges were silver and black after looking at them again, for some reason I believed them to be the 60's colors badges. Makes a ton more sense now, I thought they looked more like 70's and the 70's did offer these colors.
