Maybe it's a bad memory, but

Does anyone remember a drum kit where the tom was a continous drum that wrapped around to (and became) the floor tom? Know what I mean????.. One head, one drum that swept around the kit.

I have a vague memory of a picture of it in a drum magazine in the 70's (ok it was the 70's and I was young so maybe it was a it wasn't real).

I can't even figure out what terms to google/search.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

That'd be something I'd love to see... I haven't been around long enough to "remember" such a thing, but I can picture it in my mind.

What would happen (soundwise) if you hit both at the same time? I mean, your batter than also is your resonator, and if you only hit one head, it might work, but what happens if you hit both?

I know Staccato made some weird shapes, but I've only seen single head drums; not two drums connected into one. BUT I haven't seen it all (by far), so please someone post some cool pics :D

Not sure that would work, acoustically speaking. I'm thinking you might be mixing kits ... perhaps you might be recalling a North kit and some one off custom kit with long tubes. That would be my guess.

If you remember that drum from the 70's, you or the drum really weren't there. Very likely a hulucination. Anyone remember the Fender poster from that time with the hooka smoking caterpiller lounging atop a giant mushroom?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

The only thing I recall that's remotely close is that Terry Bozzio had an electric kit built for him where the "pads" were part of the rack. I believe he was on the cover of Modern Drummer with it during the late '70s or early '80s in full Missing Persons regalia (big hair, shiny suit).
