Saw these pop up locally and was considering the purchase. The price is nice but there has obviously been some serious work done. What are you guys seeing here? Do you think the snare has been cut down? It has original hardware but extra holes that look like original holes? What is your take? Worth the trouble?

I'm clueless on those, but it looks like something Levon Helm might have enjoyed.

No re-rings on snare is a huge red flag. Throw off is not all original. Hard to say what the other drums are/were. If close by and priced right it might be worth a look. Good luck.

To me... all of that painted metalwork spells trouble.. even the tension rod threads have been dunked in what looks like enamel.
Underneath the paint will be some real rough metalwork,, Cheers John |

Looks like someone took a generic single tension BD and combined it with a WFL Zephyr tom, a RK floor tom, and maybe a Radio King Snare? Maybe was a marching drum that they cut down? It looks like they moved the bridges up a bit from the original holes... or they drilled the 1st set of holes too close to the bottom hoop.... a better pic of the inside of the snare would help...
In all, it looks like someone wanted to make a Noble & Cooley CD Maples clone kit... |
