Default Pdp cx series snare drum any good?

Hey folks,
Haven't posted anything in a while because I'm not in the vintage drum game anymore, but could use some advice from you great vintage drum folks regarding a snare drum that im looking to pick up at very reasonable price. I'm not familiar with Pacific drums, but do know they are decent, even great sounding mid range drums. I was looking for a nice maple snare drum to keep at one of the venues i play at, and found a PDP CX SERIES snare drum in a nice white lacquer finish, which i think will look great with my restored vintage Stewart bass drum, that i repainted in a nice surf blue. My question is, are these drums any good and has anyone had any experience with them.? I once had the 10x4 popcorn snare they made and thouht it was a great drum. But the one I'm looking at is a 5.5x14. Also, what wood is the cx series made up of ? I haggled the price to $80.00 CDN. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

The Pacific CX series drums are maple shelled drums and are the exact same shells that DW used in their drum lines at that time. They used cheaper lugs and hardware for the Pacific drums and they were assembled in Mexico to cut costs. I have played on CX drums before and they are great drums, however the set that I played did not have the original snare so I haven't heard the snare drum but the toms and bass drum sounded great. I'm sure the snare would be just as good and for that price I don't see how you could go wrong. Only thing that I would be unsure of though is that the CX series were wrapped shells and not lacquered so has the wrap been removed and the drum painted?

Hello bp350... and to the forum! human71 (Rob), good to hear from you!

bp350 is correct. The PDP CX series used all-maple shells with covered wraps. To lower costs, a new lug was used, but still had the Tru-Pitch nut and tension rods. The strainer was a nice die-cast unit. Tuned up with pro heads and it's a great sounding snare drum!

Also, are you sure it's a CX and not an LX snare drum? All CX drums were covered and LX drums were lacquered. There was also a MX series, which were lacquered drums with a matte finish.
