Looking for recommendations for batter and snare heads for a 5.5x14" '58 "Duco" snare drum.
Thanks! |

I have had good results with the Aquarian vintage series batter heads. I never can remember whether it is Modern vintage or American vintage. I also use Remo diplomat thin as possible snare side heads. Actually a nice wood drum like this will sound good with almost any good quality head. Good luck.

The Evans Calftone would be a nice choice.
Very warm sound, they look the vintage part, and they sound similar to a real bovine head, at least from the comparisons I've heard. I did have an issue with one of them though. After some use, a tom head just refused to tune up properly. It kind of went flat on me. Weird. But I do love their sound and look. |
