About the green sparkle -- I never cared for it much until I started looking into it with a potential customer. Then some other members started posting some pics and making some positive comments in another recent thread and I'm seriously considering rewrapping a set of 3-ply Ludwigs I've got ready to go whether I complete that particular deal of not. I've gotten excited about the green sparkle! As for the champagne sparkle, it has ALWAYS been a favorite of mine and always will be. My second set that I bought new in 71 (or maybe 72) was a Ludwig Rock Duo set in champagne pink. Lost that set in an accident after a gig and that's how I ended up with my Pearl W-FG set. The problem with that wrap, however, is that it actually had tiny sparkles of silver and copper in it, so it's VERY EXPENSIVE to produce.I'm not sure what's in the "modern bermuda sand" that Precision sells and what Gretsch uses. But I did see a Catalina Set at the Guitar Center in Wichita last fall, and I was so "notalgically taken" I almost pulled out my credit card! So, my Jet repro I've got ready to wrap is PROBABLY going to get it...BTW -- I'm glad I made you and your wife chuckle in the gallery thread (that was you, wasn't it?). When I typed that, I caught it only as I was typing -- so that's why the "that didn't sound good" comment, then I just kept going!Bill

I posted a pic of my kit in that thread. It's hard to tell that the FT is a different shade of green than the rest. The green on the BD and rack really pops. Problem is, the black spots on the BD and the fact that the rack is a 13 and I want a 12 (I have one coming that needs re-wrapping). I'm not going to mess with the 13, I'll just sell it to someone who needs it to match their kit.

You're right about the silver and copper particles, and the fact that it's expensive, but DANG it looked good. Bummer you lost your champagne kit! I think I will go with the modern Bermuda Sand if you say that's what Gretsch is using on their Catalina's. I too have been lusting for one ever since I first saw that wrap...and the Catalina Jazz is a nice-playing kit - I play one at church every week.

And yes, that was me who laughed at your post! I haven't laughed that hard in weeks! I didn't even think about it other than in a drum way until I read the "that didn't sound good, did it?" Then I realized what you had just written and I exploded with laughter. It took me at least a few minutes to regain my composure and read it to my wife. Then we both had a good laugh for another few minutes. I think I owe you $20 for the show...I haven't laughed like that at some comedian's routines. Laughing H

Blessings!

SlingerLynn --

I just uwrapped a silver sparkle Ludwig 24" late 60s BD that had seriously UGLY dark stains in the wrap. As I suspected, it was already a rewrap job, and the stains appeared to have originated from the underside. Part of the original glue residue was there, and I suspect the stains to have been caused by some sort of chemical reaction between the old and new glues.

I of course have it ready to rewrap again, and made sure ALL of the glue residue is now history.

I don't know if your black spots are similar or not, but that may be what you're up against.

Even though I played that Ludwig champagne kit for about 6 years, I only have two known pictures. One of them I'll have to send to you or post... as it was late in my playing career and is a picture of me setting it up (or possibly taking it down) in a church sanctuary. Long story, but my band recorded an album and accompaniment tracks for a musical evangelist who had come out of the hard rock music scene. One of the songs we recorded for him was the old standard hymn "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun." He didn't have a lot of money but had the recording equipment, and the accoustics in the church (with a combination of 70s shag carpet, kitchen type of carpet, padded pews, the old style ceiling panels, some wood paneling and some plastered walls, etc.) were nearly perfect for recording. The pastor was young and accomodating... and all of this went a long way towards putting me on a different path in life. The accident I referenced earlier where I lost the Ludwigs helped along that way, too.

No, don't worry about the $20 for the comedy. But I do have a music ministry and maybe you could get me some contacts in your part of the counrty... :)
