Default need help from a Leedy expert

I have this beauty I got from a fellow forum member and I want to get it back to its original state. The photos show the snare with the Radio King extended butt that I have on there , the four holes that are existing, the butt that was on it when I got it and the Zoomatic strainer which I am pretty sure is how it came from the factory. I need to know what the proper, original butt assembly would be. Thanks in advance for all the help!

I installed the extended butt and I think the snare sounds better, more sensitive and responsive. I think it sort of streches the wires as the strainer pulls them up? The snare sounded pretty good with the what I think is a generic butt that was on it when I got it.

Your Leedy is from the Slingerland era. Mine are all pre-Slingerland. But the butt that is used on the earlier Leedy's is basically the same as the extended butt used on the Slingerland Sound King COB snares. It uses only two holes to attach to the shell, so the other two holes in your picture are extras.

I'll bet Slingerland used this same butt for their Leedy line. If you measure the distance for the two sets of holes I'll check it against the Slingerland and Leedy drums I have.

The top two holes are 2 1/4" and the bottom holes measure 1 3/4". Thanks for responding, I knew there had to be someone here with some knowledge about this snare. But that is a bummer if two of the holes are not original!!!!!

I measured about 1-7/8" on my 1949 (pre-Slingerland) Leedy Broadway. Same as the Slingerland Sound King. I would guess this is the part used on your Slingerland, though its possible they used a plain (non bridge) butt since you can find these with the same 1-7/8" measurement on some of the other Slingerland snares produced at that time.

BTW, I don't think the photo you showed in your link is an original drum either; do you have any other pictures of it?

Could it be that I have this forum "stumped"! I can't believe that only one person has chimed in. Help a brother out here!

Yep, it's called the Leedy Broadway Strainer butt, it's the butt assembly they used with the Zoomatic strainer. Same as 4MYON has pictured
