Default Ludwig Red Psychedelics on eBay Restos?

There are some Red Psychedelic toms listed here that look like they have been buried in someones back yard for a few years:

I just don't understand the attraction of painting the inside of the shells black. Was this a common practice back in the day? My Camcos are afflicted by this plague.

I don't get the fact that people were not completely satisfied with their drums and went to the store to purchase black paint, a paint brush, etc..?

I agree. I totally admire the clear wood shells that started on the Ludwigs in 68'...... can't see any reason to cover those nice clear interiors.
