I haven't seen any 60's super classics (with matching shells) in any condition go below $700 as of late. What do the valuation gurus think?
That is an insanely cheap price to pay for those drums. I paid $1100 CDN for my late 70's big beat kit and thought
that was decent. The price on your kit is a joke.. Albeit an awesome joke ! Congrats on a great find !
Btw, i'd get your buddy a nice Scotch in the $100 range. Small price to pay for finding Ludwig "gold", or
in your case "silver"...

Nice player's kit for $550. What I'm wondering is what will be left for you to restore? It appears that your friend already did all the restoring for you prior to the sale.

Great deal on a great set ! Those look really cool with that vintage vibe! A bottle of Jack or whatever your friend drinks.

I don’t have to restore a thing. He was doing it for me. Sorry for the confusing wording. It is keyed up and ready to go.

He put black “suede” heads on the batter sides because he had a bunch in stock. I’ll probably replace with coated emperors, but that’s really the only thing I need to do.. I think it’s got clear single ply Attack heads on reso side. Not familiar with Attack, but they sounded pretty good. I would run coated emperors on batter and ambassadors on reso side normally.

It was basically an automotive clear-coat to protect them.

I have this kit now. It sounds incredible and looks amazing with its antiqued patina.

I swear Ludwig used two different silver sparkle wraps, the kind I have on my Club Dates and what's on your kit here. Maybe someone can pop in and clarify but I don't see how the wrap on my kit could ever age to what you have. I've seen the kind that's on yours a bunch of times now and I'm convinced it's different...

Either way I like em both and that's a great kit for a great price you have there.

Thanks. Your wrap looks in fantastic shape. Really pretty there.

I think if you have enough exposure to UV rays, smoke, and/or heat, you can get some pretty squirelly-aged wraps. White marine pearl has a similar yellow-aged tinge to it if you never have em in cases and they get baked with outdoor gigs and layered with nicotine from smoky bars. I've even seen Green Sparkle kits turn almost to a yellow-green sparkle with enough hard years on em.

I recently picked up a 1966 Super Classic and could not be happier with it... that amazing big fat round tone.

Thanks! The wrap on these doesn't have much visible aging for some reason.

I agree with everything you say about wraps and aging, 100%. However when I see this lighter SS like you have it's always all the way around the drum[s] and also under the lugs. Never have gotten confirmation that Ludwig used 2 different SS, or tried a different type for a while, but I remain convinced - the more common SS almost always goes ginger-ale, which is essentially darker, an amber tint. But yours are actually lighter in appearance, sort of a cream-of-wheat look. My theory is that the backing on yours is more cream-colored and on mine it's putty-colored. Maybe I'll take a close-up and make a comparison pic with yours from your OP.

....although it's not an issue anyone seems to care about.
