Default WFL Return

Here they are again! Had to let them go for awhile, but got them back on a trade.
I decided to remove the rail so I could move the tom a bit closer, I also removed the splash cymbal mount. The kit is not as yellowed as they look in the pictures.

It looks great, you must be happy to have it back home again! I love the WFL kits. My 58 New Yorker has such a sweet sound and punch compared to my other kits.

We see no end of discussions here about altering drums by adding or changing tom and cymbal mounts. This time, I'm first going to ask if the cymbal mount on the bass drum and the rail mount parts on the bass drum and tom were original to the drum set. Then, if the answer us yes, I'm going to be as critical as the people who are opposed to drilling holes for adding equipment.

They are both original and they can be taken off and put back on easily. Having owned the kit before, I knew I couldn't get the tom at an angle and height I'm comfortable with, so off it came. The splash cymbal mount is close to the rail and it just got in the way. I love vintage drums, but I'm not crazy about the poorly designed hardware, not to mention where it's placed on a 24" kick. The tom was either way too high or off to my left too much and adjusting it was a pain, even with the Ludwig wrench I have. If I ever sell the kit, I'll put them back on, not a big deal. Here's a picture of the tom on the rail. It's a good 3-4" away from the kick, if I moved the arm more in the middle of the rail, the tom was too high for my liking, it also sounds better on the stand.

Can anyone explain why this kit doesn't have a ride mount? Were they optional? I'm also confused on why the kick has nickel hardware and the toms are chrome.
