The Gretsch is a beast , wow.
I was just being curious about the weight,
as mentioned previously the shaving of the lug hole is the best way to tell I would think.

Regarding weights for brass vs aluminum bare shell (and full dress, although you shouldn't use the full dress classification function for 8 lug drums) see:

There is a very small (p< 1 in 500) probability that your shell is brass, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't check.

I read somewhere about a letter b near the bar muffler indicating type of snare. I do not think there is a b present

No "b" stamps during this particular period. They came a few years later.
