Hey everybody,
Thought I'd get some weigh-ins from all you Ludwig Aficionados out there. This kit is for sale locally for a high price ($2000), just curious what everyone thinks - never seen gold hardware on a Ludwig kit from that era - the pics make it tough, but to me the grommets look a little weird and even the WMP doesn't say Ludwig to me. I don't see any holes from where the mounts were removed to use RIMS mounts, etc. etc. - I'm thinking a rewrap with after-market plating on the hardware? What do y'all think? And what kind of offer would you make on such a kit?

Price is way to high for a re wrap kit, there was gold hardware. But that is very gold hardware. look for another kit or offer him $500.00

I'm not really interested in the kit for myself, but I am always curious to hear other Ludwig fans' comments and thoughts about a kit like this. I wouldn't personally hand over more than $500 for it - there are just too many weird bits going on here - but I'm sure someone who doesn't notice things like rewrap will buy them thinking they're all original.

I'd call him on it, point out that it's a re-wrap and Ludwig never used gold plating on kits from that era. Maybe he doesn't know, he could had bought the kit thinking it was all original, there are a lot of knuckleheads out there.
There's a guy here trying to sell a ludwig black/white badge Rocker snare for $250, saying it's a vintage supra. I told it was a Rocker from the 80's, but he didn't change the listing. Maybe the seller does know, but just doesn't care. Last edited by johnnyringo; 08-04-2015 at 01:50 PM. |

The closest tom in the first pic has a die cast rim on it. Odd. I also think the stands were painted gold or something. I think they were originally chrome. The lugs look better than the stands. imho I don't think gold and wmp look good together. Swap out those gold lugs and rims or just remove that gold. Not sure if it is even plating. You can see in the second pic where the gold is worn off the tom mount on that top tom, and the Ludwig sticker on the stand is painted over.

The gold plated hardware cost a fortune to do - and when it was not offered in that era....??
Worth as much as a vintage re-wrap 3ply Luddy kit....and value either lower or higher considering the gold plating....depending on how you look at it. So - very hard to evaluate/appraise Seller obviously does not know the market - or thinks that an old gold plating job ruining originality and a rewrap - all garner more $ than a mint original kit of the same era! I would just walk away - because there is no way this guy is going to take only $500 for them. I predict someone will see them - really like them and pay about $1000.
