Default Vintage Lyon & Healy Snare Drum Civil War?

I picked this snare up today and was wanting to find out more about it and possibly an idea on value. It also came in a case (pictured). Would that be original? Anyone know anything?

Lyon & Healy started in 1864 as a sheet music business. They then made harps c.1889, & eventually carried band instrument near the turn of the Century. This is not a Civil War drum. Your drum is interesting, where's the throw, or strainer ? I have a wood Lyon & Healy Parade snare of similar size, w/ a different tension rod design.

Hi Ben,
Cool drum! I'd guesstimate very early 20th century, maybe 1900 - 1910s or so but it's hard to say for sure. tdennis is right, Lyon & Healy goes way back.

I bought a similar drum (maybe more like tdennis' but with a metal shell) for about $200 which I think is fair. The label inside of my drum lists a jobber, but I suspect Lyon & Healy built the drum. Pic attached.

Be careful if you do any cleaning at all on the shell. Removing the patina will reduce the value in many collector's eyes.

The leather snare butt could be replaced if the old dried up / torn one bugs you. That would be a very minor fix.

Who knows if that case is original... There isn't much value in the case itself beyond the sentimental!

There is one of these for sale in my area just like the one in Ben's post for $80.00. I'm thinking about buying it tonight.

That looks like a sister to my Lyon&Healy "New Decade", I believe was the model....I'm going on memory here, as I have lost my meager L&H documentation/catalogs. Early 1900s model, again on memory....lol
