Default A. Zildjian's Made In Canada 1970's

Hey,
Starting in 1968 I was told Zildjian started making cymbals in Meductic, New Brunswick in Canada called AZCO Ltd before it became Sabian in 1981. I was told they first had the A. Zildjian stamp but with no country of origin. Does anyone know what year they started stamping them Made In Canada underneath the Arabic script logo? Phil Cormier Leominster, Ma 01453

back Phil,

Who told you? Somebody in person? Reading a web site? A book? It helps to give your references.

There are more trademarks than just the A Zildjian trademark from the Canadian plant.

I know of no evidence that there is a chronological difference between the A Zildjian trademark with the Made in Canada at the bottom versus without the Made in Canada. I have demonstrated that the tops are identical and it is just a question of whether the separate bottom portion was also pressed in.

The same thing is true of the Canadian made K Zildjians (1978-1981)

If you have specific evidence about a difference in years please do let me know. The alternative explanation is that whether or not Made In Canada got added to the trademark depends on whether the cymbal was destined for export to the Commonwealth (mostly UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada) or the USA. That had to do with import tariffs. Once again this story is out there on the interwebs but it is at the level of plausible sounding story not at the level of properly documented.

Portions of the topic are discussed here in an interview with Andy Zildjian that I found interesting. (He even states vintage European Tasco’s were rotocast.)
