Vintage W&A Kit Restoration

I did a test run and hung both toms from the stand... no sag, no bending at all! The tom arm and steel straps hold the toms securely, in-place. I can angle the spade arms, so it should be easy to put them where I want them and have them stay where I put them. There was no jiggling when I hit the 13". That Rogers Swivo stand is like a concrete pier for the toms. I am using the red felt that came inside the bass drum to make the inside liners for the steel rings. Gives me an opportunity to recycle something that came with the kit. It's great old felt, dense, strong. Everything is chugging along. More shortly.

Some of the old MIJ hardware was surprisingly robust. Love that you had the piece lying around for years just waiting for this moment!

...and there's little else that's as rewarding as problem-solving eh? Lookin forward to the home stretch on these...

Cheeses, Mary & Joseph, the thread just went over 10,000 reads!!! Must be a lot of guests/non-VDF members checking it out. Blew my mind when I saw the number. I wouldn't have thought that so many people are interested in vintage drum restoration. I know 'some of us' are, but 'thousands?' Boggles the mind. Now I feel like I'm 'on-stage!'

You are on stage with this one! I'll bet Google searches for "W&A" are directing a bunch of drummers to this site (maybe our little community will pick up a few new members). I've been one of these "lurkers" on this thread so far, and like everyone else, I'm holding out for the big reveal! I know you won't disappoint. An outdoor shot of the full set in the sunlight would be ideal if the temperature permits. I can't wait.

Mike, That's a problem I only just today started thinking about. I'm in PA and the cold, wet weather we've been having will not permit 'outdoor' photos. I will not expose that old wrap to freezing temperatures even for a minute. 'Indoor' shots is a problem because I have no place to set-up a full drum kit other than my basement - and it's dark down there. My drum area has a Bob Marley banner draped on the wall and it doesn't make for a good background.

I'm going to have to think about lighting and creating a back-drop for the photos. It won't be as simple as, set-up, point and click. I really have to give this (the final reveal photos,) some serious thought and consideration.
