Can you elaborate what you mean by "close"?

I intended to put it back after it was removed, in a professional way that forms that kind of convex flange, practically putting it back without guess that it is not original

... generally when you take it off it deforms then you need a new grommet and insert it with some tools, but how? I do not like having the back of the grommet all crushed with the hammer and without form, which seems manipulated ... sure on one side can be synonymous with genuine, but who makes counterfeits I think those tools know them and use them, my need for a done right restoration !

thanks zen, the only one I've ever tried is the hammer/anvil tool like this https://images.homedepot-static.com/...64-64_1000.jpg , the result is very disappointing even having experience with the DIY, I think that to do well need something like a press type tool ... just to put it on a snare drum or tom must be very big! ...

You can do the whole job for $1.95... Bolt that fits through vent hole, some washers and a nut to tighten/squeeze everything together. Done deal.

really brilliant! it would need a shaped end part to get the internal flange, it can be done

Thanks so much!

Steff- look at the flange/angle of the bolt head. Make sure the angled part is up against the back of the new grommet. You won't need anything else. Simple set up, bolt, washers (1 nylon washer to go up against the front of the grommet backed up by metal washers) and a nut.

Purdie,

I don't think that works for the look Steff is looking for. What you show works for a Rogers grommet, but I don't think it will yield what he wants to see.

yes, that funnel-shaped screw already has the right shape to drive the grommet

but how to get that kind of convex flange so that it looks like the original one

I believe that there is an original tool that they used
