Default Paiste Formula 602 help

Recently, I went and bought a vintage kit. Once I arrived, I saw a couple cymbals on the sellers bench; a pair of pre serial Paiste Formula 602’s. One was 20”, medium to heavy, the other was 19” and felt like a light jazzy ride or crash/ride. He said he hadn’t done any research on them and wouldn’t even price them. Quite frankly, I didn’t know what to offer them anyway! I was particularly interested in the 19”, as it sounded like a dream!
Any idea of value or what I could offer for the 19? I can’t even find a comp!

The expected price depends on condition. This includes any keyhole or other mounting hole issues, general surface condition, and whether or not there is any ink left. For a medium to heavy weight 20" pre serial 602 the range of values is huge: $120 up to $350 with everything in between. To get over $250 it needs to be special in some way, either quite light or have intact ink or be in excellent condition. Based on over 300 completed sales the median expected price is $180 with half selling for between $152 and $250. This analysis excludes any seriously damaged cymbals in very poor condition.

For the 19" it would most likely be a THIN or MEDIUM model from your description. They didn't have crash rides, but the MEDIUM would be the closest model. Based on 49 sales of 19" pre serial 602s the median expected price is $186 with half selling for between $152 and $220. I wouldn't read anything into the median price difference of $180 for the 20" 602s and $186 for the 19" ones. So basically the 19" cymbals follow the same distribution as the 20" cymbals. The number of sales of 19" is much lower because there aren't as many odd sizes as even sizes. My sample for 19" includes 7 concert models (which come in A, B, C1 and C2) and one Orchestral. Now that fact that I can identify these means they have model ink intact, which again adds to their expected value.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Offer $300 for both and I'll take whichever one you don't want
(if it's in good shape)
