Hey Kenny, congratulations on picking up that kit...I had a sneaking suspicion it might end up in your collection

If you don't mind my asking, which of the grommets is the correct one for that kit?
I think I see three different ones, and nothing on the 12.
Just wondering.

Thanks,
Lee

Hello Lee
Thank You for the reply
The Noble lettering used for badges is simply some kind of off-white plastic material
that has been stamped out and then glued somehow to the wrap
the grommet on the floor tom appears to have a small disc of this same material backing it
while the other drums have only the grommet or nothing at all
to answer your question. I am guessing the floor tom was the original intended grommet deal
Not sure how they ended up as they are
I was somewhat bewildered by that myself
but I have learned a good measure of acceptance when it comes to these old survivors

As mentioned, the seller was an inflexible SOB, unwilling to bend about the shipping. I can't be bothered with guys like him.

Hello Retrosonic save for a thin layer of new dust, they are just as they were then
I did run into a local guy who had the same exact kit save for the "Noble" badges
His kit has the round, blue, (larger size) Zim Gar badges
also it was my best guess at the time that the drums were built by Hoshino K
but what I have learned since then, is that the more likely builder was Sakae

I sure do love collecting these little center lug kits
I just found this BDP Ralston kit by Star (seller's pic) that is beautifully original.

Retro I just re-read some of the preceding comments on this thread
Here is a fun project that came together by the use of two Pearl made partials mixed together to form one two-tone kit
They are double lug 20" 13"16" w/14"snare

hi Ken, thats great.

I wonder......do you know Sakae ever made a set in this wrap in the 13/16/20 size? I mean, while I hate center lug, if I could find this wrap in the larger sizes I'm sure i'd bite the bullet and buy them...I LOVE this wrap!

Hello Retrosonic

of course I could not say for absolute sure
but my best guess would be that Sakae did not build very many of their kits in that config
and the purple/black diamond pearl wrap is not very common in any case
Most of the Sakae kits from this stencil period were 20"12"14"

I do have this one Zim Gar badged kit that I suspect is Sakae built
which is a 5 piece in total that might be of that size config
I know that one of the two mounted toms is 13"and the floor tom is 16"
But I am 99% sure the bass drum is a 22"
and while the wrap is not the purple/black it is wacky cool and nearly as rare.

Thanks Ken. I have to agree with you, as the 3 sets i have seen in that Purple/Grey diamond were all 12/14/20. Too bad for me. And youre right...that wrap you posted above is wacky~! I've never seen that wrap before.

Retro yes I think they call the wrap Gold Ingot
I already knew of this wrap as I had found this little six lug snare in the same finish
(also badged Zim Gar) a few years before buying the kit
