The problem with that set is, the usual "smallpox" discoloration you usually see on this finish. It's pretty bad on the bass drum. Go and look at the photos. There was a pink sparkle set like this on CL a while ago. I contacted the seller, but once he sent me more photos, I expressed my disinterest, and he got huffy about it for some reason.

Oxidation hits all the metal finishes
improper storage to many damp basements

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

And the seller wants $1695 or thereabouts for them. I love the color, but not the price or condition.

+1 with Bob. From a purists point of view this finish is late 50's to mid sixties, these drums have many LATE 60's attributes/features. The admittedly poorly drilled non original mounts is a minus also. Price adjusted it could be a cool players kit.

Thanks. $1695 is WAY too much for those in a color that was never popular in the first place, even though pink is rare. I have a feeling they're going to languish for sale for a while until he gets smart and drops the price. He's in Jackson, NJ, two hours from here.

I'm guessing he goes down under a grand before anyone pulls the trigger.

Hi slingerfan! Could you elaborate on the "poorly drilled non original mounts"?

As to the finish, yes it's rare, but not in the best cosmetic condition, as others have already mentioned. The seller does have a "best offer" option, but I'm thinking he's not going to go too far below his asking price. Still, he doesn't seem to get it. As I've always said, and continue to say, condition is everything!

Hello Mark,
In the text the seller discloses that the Rodgers mount drillings are "ruff". In the lone picture of the drum interiors the shells are positioned so the mounting holes in question cannot be viewed. Post factory and perhaps poorly done falls under the golden rule; condition is everything!

I didn't read the eBay text, so thanks for pointing that out. While I don't have any issues with the use of period-correct Rogers Swivo hardware on non-Rogers drums, I find it hard to tolerate poor drilling...even when you can't see it!
