Default Ludwig Universal yard sale find for $1

We just picked this up at a yard sale this morning for $1. The guy said he thought it said Ludwig on it someplace. When I asked how much he said one dollar. I was buying it because I need some of those rim clips.
When we got it home we found a very light engraving on the top hoop that says "Ludwig Universal". Maybe I won't scavage the clips off it.
The bottom hoop is kind of rusty and the snares have some broken wires. Other than that it is pretty clean. It is a
14 x 5 6 lugger.

My research so far (eBay) suggests it is 1920's vintage with a brass shell and most likely worth more than the $1 I paid for it.

I hit the shell with some chrome polish and it cleaned up nicely. Towards the end of the week I'll take it all apart and put it on the buffing wheel and get it as clean as I can. I'll be looking for someplace to refinish the hoops.
Can't wait to hear what it sounds like!

Careful with any abrasives and/or buffing. That 90-100 year old plating can be very thin!

Cool find..!!
I've read here on VDF that some re-plating efforts of "engraved" hoops has filled in the lettering, rendering them "unreadable"....
Food for thought
