Hi all thanks for the responses. If it is a refurb I'm ok with that. It seems to be done well. My concern is the bearing edges and the effect on the sound. I really want that sweet fat super classics sound. I'll be hitting them this week so will send more pics! Thanks again

You're more than welcome...but keep us posted as to whatever you find out because I'm curious now if the wrap is original or new. Thanks.

Hi again,

Do these pictures help re. the bearing edges? You mentioned the inside of the grommets - what should I look out for here?

The ganitone does look rather clean. Have you seen it this clean before? I hope it's not a cement mix! You now have me worried I've thrown a load of money down the drain.

Any advice is more than welcomed. Thank you

Interesting...I think the shells look a little short according to the tape measure. It would be better to measure the shell by itself without the rims attached....but I'm getting the suspicion they have been re-edged.

If you can take the rims and heads off and show the raw edges and take the bare shell measurements, it would be helpful.

Look for scratching and bent metal around the grommet hole on the inside of the shell.

It's just too hard to see what's what with the heads on.

Hello again, how are you?

I have more pics. I've attached the 3 badges and pics of the back of the badges. I've included the depths of the BD and Hi Tom. I love he way the bass drum sounds. The toms are a little unruly but then I've only played modern kits before and the heads need a change.

No holes for removed internal mufflers. Just the granitone paint.

Any further thoughts on this one? Thanks in advance.

Wow...well I'm going to defer to someone else to chime in on this one. To me, the grommets look okay, but the edges and the wrap (especially the floor tom) seem really sketchy. Again, that is an era when some of the factory edge work was absolutely terrible. But....I'm just not sure what to say at this point. Maybe someone else can make an assessment. All I can say at this point is that there are several questionable things....

Thank you O Lugs. I've opened the 16 tom up today and it really smells of paint / adhesive.

Is it possible that the granitone paint has ben freshly painted, then the badges re attached perfectly? The 3 numbers on the drums are close which I'm thinking is a good sign - but why the smell in the tom?

The granitone paint in the toms seems a little too perfect?

Any thoughts? I'm wondering if I should challenge the seller if this isn't a legitimate ludwig kit?

Thanks
Gavin
