Default Ludwig Super Classic or Classic 1994?

Hello! I recently acquired this kit and have a question. not whether it is a classic or SuperClassic ... If anyone understood Ludwig I could clarify what would be very grateful. also'll upload some photos for more clarification.

The sizes are: 22 x 14. Kick Floor tom 16x16 and 13x9 Tom and in the interior it is stamped "074".

Sorry for my english jejejeje....Greetings for Spain!!!

Your photo of the bearing edge is blurry. Take a close look and count the plies. They're either 4 ply or 6 ply probably?

I agree with Bun E. on this one. Count the plies of the edge of the shell. 4-ply would be the super classic shells, 6-ply (or possibly 8 or 9 ply depending on the exact year of manufacture) would be the regular classic shells.

Not quite sure what you mean by "authentic" here. Yes they are real Ludwig drums, yes they are from the Monroe, North Carolina era. Yes they are from the early 1990's judging by the ink date code stamp inside one that you have pictured, and by the looks of it, they appear to be six ply shells, so that would make them the Classic Maple series shells, as opposed the Super Classic shells, which are 4-ply and thinner than these 6-ply shells.

This era of Ludwig drums are considered "modern" drums still, not really vintage, so there really would be no reason for anybody to counterfeit or replicate them, simply because they are just considered "used" drums, and don't have an extremely high resale value. They are good quality and sound great, but they are not worth someone's time to make counterfeit for the reason I stated above.

They look to be in great condition, so just set them up and enjoy playing them.

I wouldn't even give it a second thought.. They're authentic 90's 6 ply Ludwig drums,
heavy and loud as all hell.. Awesome drums.. You will not be disappointed..

I agree that those will sound great. BTW I think the term classic maple was first used around 1997 or so. The original classic maple drums were nine ply but now Ludwig makes them as a 7 ply. The 6 ply drums made in the 90's were simply called classics while the 4 ply drums were termed super classic(a name Ludwig used in the 60's on a 22,13,16, supra configuration with a rail mount and cymbal mount off the bass drum).

Hello everyone again from Spain hehehe !! Sorry if I have not explained well before ... I have been looking in the official catalog of ludwig 1994 and does not appear this type of configuration and I would like to know if there is a catalog more than the one on the network such as 1995 From now on ... Upon closer studying & inspection, this is not a kit from 1994, but rather 2004. This is the Classic Maple Fab-4 kit finished in silver sparkle. If you look very closely at the bearing edge pic again, I count 9-plies of maple. Also, the Fab-4 configuration is one of the very few kits at that time where the rack tom mount is drilled higher up on the shell as compared to other kits. Also, the serial numbers on the badges are much higher in sequence (like a complete extra digit higher!) than a snare I have that is from 1994.

Most of these came in Black Oyster (for obvious reasons), but you could order the kit in any available color that Ludwig offered at the time. Also, you could order it with whatever type of lugs (large or small), keyrods for the bass drum, bass spurs, and floor tom legs that Ludwig offered at the time. The only thing you couldn't change was the single rack tom mount. They only offered them with the "Rocker" single tom holder. On any other kit you could still order a Modular holder if you wanted, but not the Fab-4.

Still an excellent sounding kit. I think we were all a decade off on this one originally though (myself included).
