Default 1932-34 SLINGERLAND 6.5 x 14 ALL METAL NOB RADIO MODEL DUALL

Hi,

Here’s the latest to enter the collection thanks to my “EBay spotter” Mark Cooper. I was surprised that there were no bids on this drum, there were 29 watchers but not one bid other than mine. Wood DUALLs rarely show up on EBay and metal DUALLs like this one are even scarcer so I grab them up when I can. As of this writing this drum is the only 6.5 x 14 Radio DUALL that I have ever seen, I have seen a few 5 x 14 all metal DUALLs. The former owner is a retired percussionist who taught at the college level and played with professional orchestras including the BSO.

THE SHELL:
The previous owner did some cleaning/polishing of the shell so there was little for me to do.

THE HARDWARE:
All the hardware is present except for one adjustment/tightening screw on one of the DUALL mechanisms but I had that parts in my parts stash. The Harold R. Todd (early) tone control was missing but once again Mark Cooper alerted me to the correct item on EBay so I BIN’d that puppy right away! The rest of the hardware was in very good condition but I still did my cleaning/polishing regimen. I’m always fascinated with the manufacturer’s cartouches (stamps) that are found under both snare gates. I have always wondered what the various numbers/letters meant. Maybe it’s a quality control thing ala “this item was inspected by...” The markings here are KK/KK on one side and K/K on the other side. The original 12 strand snares are intact and straight.

Of-the-era top and bottom calf heads rounded out this cleaning.

As a number of you know I like to complete “sets” of drums so I’ve included a photo of my 5 x 14 NOB Radio Model DUALL.

Enjoy!
