Post Tips for restoring 80's Premier Soundwave

Hey fellow drummists,

I have an 80's Premier Soundwave kit in players condition that I am looking to restore. I kit sounds amazing, but it looks really tatty. I have already removed the wrap and the shells are in fairly good condition.

I essentially want to make the kit look 'new' again. The hardware is rather pitted but luckily a very good vintage drum dealer lives in my home town who can source me good condition vintage hardware. I want to apply a nice sparkle wrap to the kit and fit it with the new hardware, hoops etc

Can anyone recommend some good quality but affordable wrap? Ive seen the Sparkle Brite, self adhesive wraps on eBay but the quality looks questionable.

Also, any other advice would be great, best way to go about restoring pitted hardware, drum stain options, affordable but effective options... basically anything!

I'm really excited to sink my teeth into this project but I don't want to do a bad job and mess up this kit, I love the kit too much

Thanks everyone

Tomhall, first of all welcome to VDF, were glad to have you. Stay away from that sparkle bright /ebay wrap. If you want a quality drum wrap go to http://precisiondrum.com/ and get a sparkle wrap. Another source http://www.jamminsam.com/ has some sparkles wrap that is priced efficiently and still much better that the ebay wrap. I dont know if they ship over seas or not, that the only thing. Im sure others will weigh in here, good luck, take some pictures for us and share the progress, we would love to see it.

Any quality sparkle wrap will bring your kit back to life. Stay away from all of the 'bargain' wraps, especially Sparkle Bright. Should be renamed, Sparkle Blight! Useless garbage. Save if you have to, but go with a traditional wrap. Cheap wrap is no bargain when it needs to be replaced every 6 to 12 months.

Jeff provided two excellent sources State-side, I'm certain there is a good local source for traditional wrap, do a little home work. You'll find all the help you'll need right here when you're ready to tackle the job.

to VDF!
