Vintage Gretsch Score Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Picked up a couple of very nice pieces the other day. Gretsch 60s bass drum and rack tom in aqua satin flame. The drums are all there, no extra holes. Pratt muffler on bass drum is there and works, both tom mufflers present and accounted for. Missing part of the ratcheting tom arm tilter but that will be replaced soon. Drums sing out! The bass tuned up bebop style perfectly and the rack tom is up there Max Roach tight and sounds great. Floor tom is a NOS New Classic 14x14 in merlot sparkle but soundwise it's right there with the bass and rack tom. Snare is a newer G4160.

Thank you. I did check back with seller and he had a matching 5 1/2 x14 snare I just snapped up. Will post pics when I get it. I think there might have been a 16x16 with this kit that sold awhile back. If nothing else I can have the New Classic rewrapped by Precision to match, heck I'd even spring for some new Gretsch internal mufflers just to make it cool!

Nice! The finish looks in great shape from here. I love the 60's Gretsch Satin Flame - nostalgia setting in here for me. I bought a new Satin Flame Rock n' Roll kit in 1969 but sold it in 76. A couple of years ago I found a kit like my old one on eBay (minus the snare drum unfortunately). The finish on my drums is not that great but from a few feet out - in the right light - they look great. Your Satin Flame drums look awesome as well as the others you have there. Good score - congrats!

Thanx Kona! From the pictures on Ebay I was afraid I might have to re-wrap because of some of the cracking and wear to the satin finishhere and there but the flames are so cool I've decided they're worth more to me in as original condition as possible. Shined up some of the chrome and tossed new heads on which are snug btw but that's normal. They still sing great. Cant wait for that snare! I'm having more fun with this kit already than I do with my new Ludwig Classic Maples!!

Now to find the matching 14x14 or a slightly roached one from another kit or era and have it rewrapped to match as close as possible! I will be ordering a new rail consolette from Maxwells if I can't find the ratcheting piece with arm to go with original rail.

Nice score! I have been lusting for a Round Badge kit.

I think Maxwell sells the individual components for the rail mount, at least he used to.
