I came into several Ludwig drums from a school auction and this was included. From several of the projects you all have helped me through in the past few years, this is my first true venture into fixing up Ludwigs.
Can you Ludwig aficionados save me some research and let me know what this is and what I need to put on it to fix it up to make it period correct. I've looked in the snare gallery and can't seem to find something similar. It appears to have a "transition" badge but embarrassed to say I'm not truly sure what that means. I know I've come to the right place-so lay it on me Luddy guys! No such thing as too much information if you have the time to elaborate. Dean |

Not a transition badge. Large keystone-Chicago ~'83-'84 per Rick Gier's book.

OddBall was really close on the ID. It's actually a L472 Rock/Concert snare.
The three holes are configured for the P-34 butt (paired with my favorite P-87 throw!!!). EDIT: Configuring the snare with the P-87/P-32 would make it a L403. Last edited by Hoppy; 06-21-2019 at 12:23 PM. Reason: Added clarification on model numbers |

During this time period, all P87 strainers were matched with the P34 butt. The P85 was matched with the P32. I have a 1961 Super Classic snare drum with the P87/P32 configuration, but this wasn't offered in the 80's. -Mark |

Yes, this is the very last Chicago badge. Off to Monroe NC soon afterwards.
