Default Help identifying 1969 Ludwig kit in gold mist

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 1969 Ludwig kit in gold mist. However, since I can’t find a 1969 catalog, I’m having a hard time identifying the kit. Any help is greatly appreciated. Please see dimensions and serial numbers below.
24 in kick - 714109
18 in floor tom - 714146
16 inch floor tom- 748789
14 inch rack - 713706
13 inch rack - 710549

Also, I know it’s not part of the original kit, but it came w a late ‘69 marching snare 15x12 - 709414 - can’t find any info

Thanks,
Aaron

Hello, and welcome! Pictures would help a lot, but the sizes are the same as a catalogued kit "Pro Beat" that shows up in the 1975 catalog. I'm sure some of the experts will answer up shortly.

Definately a Pro Beat model. It may not have appeared in a catalog until 1975, but you could order those sizes in 1969.

Pro Beat outfit first appears in the 71 catalog. ALL the outfits were the same drums, just different size and hardware combinations so there is no difference between a 9x13 tom found in a Pro Beat, or Hollywood, or Super Classic, or Deluxe Classic, etc. etc. except for, possibly, the placement of the mounting bracket relative to the badge depending on whether it was meant to be mounted on the left or right in that particular configuration.

While the drums were the same I'd say the Pro-Beat was considered to be one of the higher end set-ups with the larger sized toms that were coming into fashion just then.

BTW: that wrap was called Gold Sparkle by Ludwig. There was a Gold Mist wrap too which was a similar color but was a thinner version of the wrap with finer grade sparkles. Gold Mist was only used on Ludwig's Standard line of drums which were a lower cost line they produced from approx. 1968-1972. Because of that you'd be better off to use the proper name "Gold Sparkle" to avoid any confusion.

Here's the Pro Beat from the '71 Catalog. There was a gap of a couple of years between catalogs and by '71 the drums had the B/O badge design. Since yours have the Keystone badge I'd surmise that they were a very early example of a Pro Beat from 1969(ish) which would pre-date their first catalog appearance. Someone else posted about such a kit just the other day, perhaps these are the same drums or it's a bit of a coincidence. They could also have been a special order set, which certainly makes them no less valid as a set of drums, especially since Ludwig did make an outfit in those same sizes (the only question is exactly when they started doing so).

Wow. incredible. I truly appreciate the information. Thank you so much. for the information.

So, I would imagine that $200 for the kit was a fairly good deal? included vintage speed king bass pedal, a couple (likely 70's) Ludwig cymbal stands, vintage Ludwig snare stand, vintage Ludwig temple blocks, etc.
