Disagree on pricing. W/out rail consolette subtract $100. You got ebay pricing going on there.

Pardon my ignorance, but I have a question. I am by no means trying to detract from that great set drfills has for sale. It looks great, but there's a question your bass brings up that I've puzzled over before when looking at some drums from 1960 to 1966 which I've seen posted for sale.

First off, to clear the air, let me say that I've owned a Hollywood set in Champagne sparkle since I purchased it new in 1965 when I was in high school. My bass has a separate small 2.5 inch lug mount for each of the skin/head tensioners (20 total with 10 per head). The bass pictured has a single set of ten very long lugs that accept the screws from both the top and bottom head for a total of ten. My question why is this bass different from my bass? Am I totally off in my observation? I do not claim to be a knowledgeable collector or Ludwig specialist...just an old drummer. I wasn't aware that Ludwig had different types of lugs...especially on the fold-out (flip out) spike bass drums in 1965. When I've seen those long lugs I always assumed someone modified the bass...please set my mind straight.

Thanks in advance...everyone have a great day!
Paul

Hi Paul,

The reason for that is your bass drum is a classic model and this bass drum is a club date model. I'm guessing yours is a 22" with ten lugs a side? This is a 20" club date with eight rods each side. Hope that clears it up!

Thank you...I stand corrected, enlightened or both. You are right about my bass height specifications. Never really considered the diameter being the key...and therefore effecting the lug number. Obvious now. Thanks to your kind input...thanks again drfills

Hobbs - It's champagne sparkle. That wrap always commands a premium because it's a scarce one. Especially on Club Date kits. You're not going to buy a keystone Club Date kit in good condition in champagne sparkle for less than $1100. +-

When the wrap is in as nice condition as the one on Dr. Fills drum it justifies the asking price and insures that the drum will hold, or increase it's value in a future transaction. $345. for that drum in that condition -is- a good price. Maybe I'm prejudice because I have a 60's rail mount sitting in my parts stash so that the missing rail mount isn't an issue for me, but I think he's asking a fair price for what it is. That's a great little drum to build a kit around...

Hey Purdie.

Respectfully disagree. 1st - drfills states it's a players bd. Looking where the consolette was you'll see the fade under sunshine (everyone wants to know nature of wrap darkening/fade ... so best advertising is taking photos with hoops off; anything short of that, IMO, = hiding how bad it is).

Sparkle is not a rare wrap on CD kits. It's less common than red or blue - + preferable; and yes, will fetch more than the other sparkles. Rare wraps on CD kits = BDP, SBP, OBP, etc ... these were not standard and were special orders.

I've learned most if not all of this on the forum here over years.

+ I have a champagne sparkle 12" tom + 20" bass with very light darkening on ebay now @ $800 BIN w/ offers that I have yet to receive an offer on (missing 1 hoop inlay). With the floor tom this easily would be a $1500 kit.

Again, respectfully.
