Red face Tabs.... Sister Golden Hair... anyone?

As I have always indicated... Iím just not much of a drummer. I love drums, I love playing, but reality check is Iím not very good. Our band is covering Sister Golden Hair and I canít get that little opening fill timed right. It sounds wonky every time we play it.

..... a woman sure can be a friend of mine... 4 count rest then the little fill... (is it a 4 count fill?) can anybody write that tab out just for the two measures after the four count rest and post a picture of it? Maybe indicate where the vocal comes in.

Getting really frustrated... and a little desperate. . I know itís lame asking but I canít find the tab anywhere.

I don't do tabs or read music, but after listening to the song, it's a four count after lyrics, then into fill. This is how I learned to play the drums, listening to records, then playing along.
Generally on something like this I don't need to count, I can feel where the fill goes. Now, if someone starts playing odd times, I'm like a little lost puppy.

Seems very straightforward. The rest is 4, and the fill is 4, but maybe what is messing up your counting is the fact that the vocals come in early towards the end of the fill, before the next 1, something like two eighth notes.

I does seem incredibly straightforward which is why it is making me insane. Like I said... I'm just not very good!

Making me nutty!

Ok, can't figure out how to post the actual Written score I wrote out.
I was taught in 4-4 that the best way or method to count it out for 16th notes is by the 1 e & ah 2 e & ah and so on . . .
So . . .
Lyrics end on the 4 beat with the word Mine
4 beat rest ( 1 2 3 4 count)
Snare beats on 1 e & 2 (a rest on the 1ah and 2e & ah)
Rack tom beats on 3 e & ( rest on 3ah)
Floor tom beats on 4 e & ( rest on 4ah)

Hope this helps
Michael

This guy does a good job at showing how he starts it.
4 beat rest after 'mine'. He comes in on 1 with his fill.
1 e and 2 and ah 3 and 4 e and

The whole song is in your basic 4 count. Don't make the mistake of complicating the uncomplicated. If you just start counting 1 2 3 4 through the whole introduction before the fill it will fit right in. Just remember to wait a 4 count after the vocals and then go right into fill, which is also in 4. This may sound stupid, but try not too think too much, just let it happen.

The fill is exactly one measure (four beats). I tried to type it out so it could be easily vocalized...not sure if it helps, just keep the 1 2 3 4 even as you say it, and add the subdivisions in between the counts.

I had the same problem with a tiny drum fill at the end of Grease. I had it in my head but it sounded like crap when I played it.

Just use your ear, and think of a word that takes as long to say.
