Oh man, that's not how you do Chick Webb! This is how you do Chick Webb:

I grew up in uptown Manhattan just north of Sugar Hill and Harlem where all these great old clubs were. In the 60's when I started playing out, I got to play at some of the clubs and bars with guys that were much older than me. I got my sea legs in those joints. Those bars and clubs were a tremendous breeding ground for musicians.

In the 40's Chick was King!

Do you mean the 1930s? He died in 1939. He was a fantastic drummer, anyway.

Chick suffered all his life from a painful hunch back and dwarfism. I doubt that many photos of him exist without the drum kit in front of him. When Chick played, all people could see was his head sticking out over the kit and his arms flying as he played. It must have been very hard and painful for him to stand up straight for photos. The photo in the video of Chick standing next to Ella (4:04) shows him standing straight as an arrow. You can see what a diminutive person he was compared to Ella, who was no 'giant.' Standing next to Chick, she looks like a giant in that photo. It had to be painful for him to do that, to strike that pose. I'm sure his physical maladies had a lot to do with the lack of photos of him.
