Has anybody have info on Roxy Drums? They were my first kit back in the 1960's and I have never come across another set. I vaguely remember that they may have been German?
Anybody ever heard of Roxy Drums?

Good memory. Yar... they were ORIGINALLY a German manufactured kit..and those were pretty good kits. Relatively rare to find a German Roxy anymore. Bits and pieces and orphan shells show up now and again.
BUT, the company name was sold to Pearl and they became another stencil name for '60's Pearls, or maybe Star-Tamas. Still had a Roxy badge, but they were straight-up Japanese stencil drums, luan shelled, Japanese styled hardware, and all. Not as good as the German originals reputedly were.

Thanks Jaye. The kit was a 20" kick, 10" tom and a 14" X 5" snare. The base still had calf hide skins when I got it from my brother-in-law. The base was warped so eventually I bought a Ludwig kick, then eventually replaced the toms as well. Neat thing about that kit was my brother-in-law had bought a 14" cocktail drum and used it as the floor tom. Don't remember what brand of cocktail drum it was though? It was the only set of drums that I have owned with a matching snare. With my Ludwigs I bought a Roger's Dynasonic, and my only brand new kit that I factory ordered was my current 30 year old Gretsch set and I ordered a Ludwig Black Beauty. I posted a picture of my Gretsch kit in the gallery section yesterday (they are Natural Walnut in color). Someone once told me that Sonor had come from the Roxy company years ago???

I think Paiste did a line of cymbals for Roxy. I may be mistaken, but I remember reading about Roxy cymbals.

Hi All Roxy sets were very good sounding sets..I have one from the late 50s 22" bass 13" tom 16" tom and 14" snare [wood]..The roxy drums were made if i recall right like 1950-till about 1963 or 4.. Then the "roxy" name was sold to pearl and pearl made the sets from 63 till 1969..They were made in western germany and used the same shells like sonor but not made by sonor..Shells were 3 ply breechwood with rings..They are very hard to fine a complete set today, every now and then they do show up on ebay but not in sets..Their was a set on c/l back east a some weeks ago for 250.00 or 300.00 but the guy would not ship.....Mike

g'day... i have aquired a Roxy drum kit from my late grandad... it is in pretty good condition, although i only was able to get hold of the shells... i have had to buy all new hardware to get the kit operational... also, i have replaced all the heads with coated remo ambassadors...
the kit consists of:
14" snare
6.5", 8", 10" cluster of concert toms (no bottom head)
12" rack tom
21" bass drum - yes 21" - try replacing that head - impossible!!
it also apparantly came with a timpani style floor tom with a foot pedal for adjusting tone... this has gone missing sometime between when my grandad stopped playing to when i recieved the kit last year... is this also called a cocktail drum?? any chance of finding a replacement??
all the drums listed have matching gloss black wrap, with silver lines sprinkled over the shells...
i wanted to replace all the heads as they appeared to be original calfskin and i didn't want to put a hole thru any of them... as i said b4, i can't seem to find a 21" bass head anywhere, so i don't play the drums too heavily as i don't want to damage the original head... also the smallest concert tom, the 6.5", head has split and i cant seem to find a replacement either...
does anyone know where to get custom heads made?? do remo do it?? i got the local drumshop here in perth, australia, to look into it and they came back with no luck...
i have no idea what vintage the kit is - my guess is any time between 1955 - 1965... is anyone mire familiar with these kits??
i have found some vintage zildjian cymbals off ebay, and they really bring the kit to life...
i am pretty happy with the kit, but would really like to find the cocktail style floor tom and replace the bass head... currently i have set the kit up with 2 of the concet toms (8" & 10") mounted off the left crash stand sitting where the rack tom normally would sit... and then i've mounted the 12" rack tom off the other crash stand sitting where the floor tom would...
as u can imagine, this 12" has quite a high pitch for it's position in the kit, but it does the job...
i will post some pics when i get a chance...
cheers,
wes

Yes pics would help - and 'tis unfortunate that you cannot find the tymp floor tom - the only company who l thought ever made those was Meazzi- but apparently someone else did too
